Joseph W. Denko, age 43, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at his home in Toledo after a long battle with ALS. Joe was born in Toledo to Larry and Mary Ellen Denko on September 2, 1967. He attended Christ the King School and was a 1985 graduate of Central Catholic High School. Joe received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Toledo in 1989. He was a field underwriter with Mutual of New York where he provided financial consulting services. Joe was known by his family and many friends as the "cruise director" because of his ability to plan and organize gatherings. A true gentleman, Joe loved life. He was generous and selfless always showing genuine concern and compassion for those around him. Joe was passionate about his faith and his family and will be remembered as a patient, loving father and husband. Joe is survived by his parents; wife, Debbie; son, Kendall Joseph Denko; daughter, Alexa Ann Denko; sister, Juliann M. (James) Buchele; nieces, Maggie and Amelia; nephew, Christopher; mother-in-law, Cynthia Young; sister-in-law, Veronica (Steven) Briggs; brothers- in- law, Douglas (Candy) and Matthew J. Young; and his dog, Dexter. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence C. Denko; father-in-law, Edwin P. Young; and grandmother, Louise Double. The Denko family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Joe's spiritual caregivers, Tom and Suzanne Marciniak; and his caregivers from Hospice of Northwest Ohio - Konnie, Dee, Christie, Jennifer, and Mary Ellen. Visitation will be on Friday from 2-8:00 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) with a period for sharing memories of Joe beginning at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo, OH 43623. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
