Abram H. "Abe" Snow was the son of Laten Early and his second wife, Charity (Hinzman) Snow. He was born on Linger Holler, close to the Lewis and Upshur County Line, an area now under the waters of Stonecoal Lake. The family moved to Roane County. When Laten returned to Lewis County, their son, Thomas, remained in Roane County. Abe had scheduled a marriage to Ida "Dell" Cutright, but due to his sister's health, was late and the marriage did not take place. Dell gave birth to a son, Dalton, then married Grant Pritt and raised his children and their children. Dalton was with them for his earliest years, then lived with his Cutright grandparents. After the death of Grant, Dell moved to Ohio and a correspondence with Abe took place, resulting in their marriage in 1944. Abe was the father of only the one child, Dalton H. Snow (1904-1997); the grandfather of Boyce C. Snow, and six granddaughters; 7 great-grandaughters, 20 great-grandsons (but only one with the Snow surname). Eventually Abe was living in the Snow home alone; however the neighborhood was small and close, with a community garden. One of the neighbors, Carl Starr, died in a coal mine, leaving a two children and pregnant wife. Abe became close to the two sons through the years and the boys spent a lot of time with him. He suffered a stroke while cutting weeds along the roadbank at his home on a hot summer day. The stroke left him paralyzed and he spent the last two years of his life being cared for by Dalton and his wife, Nona. He had a great sense of humor, and was loved by his grandchildren very much.
