HUEBNER, GROVER G., DR.

Funeral services for Dr. Grover G. Huebner, 79, of 26 S. Pennock Ave., Upper
Darby, Pa., emeritus professor of commerce and transportation at University
of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, a native of the Town of Two Rivers who died
Monday, March 9, at home, were at 11 a.m. Friday at Andrew J. Bair and Son
Funeral Home, Upper Darby. Burial was in Arlington Cemetery, Drexil Hill,
Pa. Dr. Huebner was a brother of Solomon S. Huebner, president emeritus of
American College of Life Underwriters, Bryn Marwr, Pa., also a native of Two
Rivers, whose name is on a plaque in the lobby of the J.E. Hamilton Community
House with those of a number of the community's most distinguished native sons.
Dr. Huebner, born at Two Rivers Nov. 13, 1884, was an authority in the fields
of transportation, commerce and foreign trade. At the time of his retirement
he was chairman of the marketing and foreign commerce department at the
University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Commerce and Finance. Earlier,
he had been chairman at Wharton Schools Commerce and Transportation Dept.
Dr. Huebner received a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in 1905 and a
Master of Arts degree in 1906, both from the University of Wisconsin. In 1908,
he received a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Huebner became an instructor at Pennsylvania in 1908, an assistant
professor in 1913 and professor in 1920. During 1914 and 1915 he was a lecturer
on transportation at Columbia University, New York City.
At various times he served as a trade expert with the United States War Trade
Board, an economic advisor with the U.S. Maritime Commission, and an examiner
with the Federal Trade Commission. He was a member of the American Economic
Assn., Foreign Traders Assn. of Philadelphia, Phi Beta Gamma Sigma Honorary
society.
Dr. Huebner was the author of "Agricultural Commerce," "Ocean Steamship Traffic
Management," "Principles of Ocean Transportation," "Transportation Principles
and Practices," "Transportation by Water," " Railroad Freight Service,"
"Foreign Trade; Principles and Practices," and "Fundamentals of Traffic," among
other works.
Dr. Huebner's wife the former Hallie Madeline Beall, died in 1952. Besides a
son, Frederick B. Huebner, of Western Springs, Ill., and the brother, Dr.
Solomon Huebner, he leaves six grandchildren. An elder son, Dr. Robert B. Huebner,
of New York City, died in May of 1963. Dr. Huebner also leaves three nieces,
Mrs. Louis (Ida Huebner) Bishop of Manitowoc and Mrs. Edward (Nellie Huebner)
Thomas and Mrs. Edward (Esther Huebner) Kerschr of Rt. 2, Manitowoc.
