Mother's Day 2015 In Honor of my MOM-My mom gave to me a love for all children, good or mischievous, rich or poor, in need or not, she took care of them and had high hopes for each and every one of them. It always reminds me of Psalm 127:3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb, a reward. To care for these little ones was a privilege to her, not a job, never a problem and always with joy and compassion. I learned The Lord's Pray when I was very young. My mother would say it with me each night before bedtime as our nightly prayers. She made sure to send me to church every Sunday and each summer to VBS. After my siblings and I were older, my mother became an Volunteer in the schools. She helped kids that were behind in math, spelling and reading. After which, she was offered a paid position riding the buses to help the mentally and physical handicapped for Dayton schools. She went back to school herself, at the age of 42 to learn sign language in order to communicate with the deaf children on her bus. My mother and father became foster parents for a deceased friend's child, raising her to adulthood and then taking in her child when hard times came and that mother could not care for him. They also helped raise my cousin's after my mom's sister died young, leaving three children without a mother. My mom retired from the school system and moved to a farm in Tennessee where she continued caring for children. She took the children of that poor surrounding area and taught them to grow, raise, and make food so they would never go hungry again. She paid them to work in the fields and at noon, she fixed a meal fit for a King. And after the work was done, she sent them home with food so their siblings could eat, too. Wonder how many children she saved from starving? She took my children each summer and taught them valued lessons on farming, gardening, livestock raising, and getting your chores done first before going fishing. And going fishing with mom was great entertainment. When someone got a bite, she would run over and squeeze that person out of their spot. I use to sit back and watch my siblings tease her by yelling, "I got a bite". She would run from spot to spot to spot before catching on to what they were doing. This is what my husband has to say about my mother, "she was a great mother to me and I loved her for that and miss her dearly". Thank you mom for being my mentor and example and just the other day, after cutting my hair, I looked in the mirror and I proudly saw YOU.
