MAX DUANE BENSON, 53, passed away at Sand Springs on Saturday, September 30, 2000, and funeral services will be held here this afternoon.

He was born in Pawnee on May 4, 1945, to Virgil L. Benson and Della(Smith) Benson, served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1970 and was a Vietnam veteran.

Max moved to Sand Springs from Elmore, Alabama in 1984 and he married Della Layton of Pawnee on December 24 of that year.

He was a Tulsa County Reserve Deputy and worked for the Office of Juvenile Affairs and enjoyed working with juveniles he supervised. He also enjoyed taking his sons and grandsons hunting.

He was affiliated with the Indian Methodist Church.
Surviving is his wife, Della of the home in Sand Springs, plus 3 sons and a daughter, Michael D. Benson, Salem, Oregon, Dale Sisco and his wife, Soma, Plano, Texas; James Sisco and his wife Baine, Winchester, Okla. and Shelly Gee and her husband, Ron, of Sapulpa.

Also surviving are 6 grandsons and a granddaughter plus his grandmother, Nora Pratt of Pawnee, a sister, Deanna Benson and a brother, Larry Benson both of Bakersfield, Calif. and an uncle, David Smith and wife, Victoria of Skiatook, Okla. and a number of other relatives.

Max was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Della Benson and 2 cousins, Vickie and Raymond Smith.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon, Wednesday, Oct. 4, 100 at 2p.m. at the Poteet Funeral Chapel in Pawnee with the Rev. Tim Byington of Dewey, Okla. officiating. Interment will follow at the South Indian Cemetery, Pawnee, under direction of the Pawnee Funeral Home of Pawnee.
