Funeral services for Robert Wayne Boyd will be held in the Basham Funeral Care Chapel (3312 Niles Street) on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Graveside services will follow at the Bakersfield National Cemetery at 1:15 p.m.
Wayne was born June 19, 1947 in Bakersfield and he passed away May 25, 2011 following a heart attack and complications from injuries he received in Vietnam in May of 1967. Wayne joined the Marines in 1966 at the age of 18 and was eager and proud to serve his country. His unit was hit with a rocket and mortar attack near Dong Ha and Wayne was severely injured, losing one leg with the other badly hurt. He spent over a year recovering in the Veterans' Hospitals in Oakland and Los Angeles.
Wayne is preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Replogle and his wife, Claudia; daughter, Dawnya and grandson, William Travis. He is dearly loved and survived by his son, Steven and his fiance Christi and their children, Chelsea, Justin, Colton and Mason; daughter, Nicole Padilla and her fiance Chris Wheeler and their children, Tyler, Sierra, Autumn and Chiann; daughter, Brandi Fletcher and her husband Terry and their children, Brea, Dakota and Collette; sister, Michelle and her friend Steve James; nephew, Michael Leggett; niece, Diane Elliot and husband Mitchell and their children, Carly and Cory; mother-in-law, Wanda Ellis and her husband Bill; sister-in-law, Kim Farias and her husband Francisco and their daughter Franchesca; step-father, Bill Replogle; father, Robert Boyd and his wife Raegan; brothers, Paul and David Boyd as well as many other family members and friends. - Semper Fi - For additional information, please contact Basham Funeral Care at 873-8200.
