Another one of Smith county's early settlers passed away in the death of George Keever, which occurred last Sunday, December 8, 1912. He was born near Upland, Indiana, February 22, 1848 and was married to Amanda Glenn, in Marion county, Iowa. They came to Kansas in 1877 and located on a homestead in Crystal Plains township in 1877, where they resided until 1891, when they moved to a farm near Athol, where they resided at the time of his death. Twelve children came to them, eleven of whom are still living, one daughter dying in infancy. All the children were present at the funeral except one who was ill with pneumonia at the time. The living children are: Frank, Daniel, Mrs. Roy Dart, Mrs. (?) Dart, Mrs. Harrison Kirkendall, all of whom are married, and Viola, Nora, Katy, Ruby and Dewey, living at home, and Elmer Keever of Little River, Kans. Three boys and eight girls.

Besides the widow and eleven children, seven brothers and fifteen grandchildren are left to mourn his loss. Three of the brothers were present at the funeral; William of Fairmont, Ind., and Frank and Elmer of Upland, Ind., and Martin of Lebanon, this county. Mr. Keever was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge of this city and a faithful member of the United Brethren church. He had been in ill health for the past two years and was prepared for the final day, having made all arrangements for the funeral. He was buried in the Myers cemetery.
