Sister Maria Clare Albrecht entered into eternal life, Sunday, January 18, 2009, of heart failure. She was 84 years old and had been a Maryknoll Sister for 60 years. Mass of the Resurrection and Burial were held January 23rd at the Maryknoll Convent in New York, NY. A Memorial Mass for Sister Maria Clare Albrecht will be held Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 10:30 AM, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Menominee, NE with Rev. David Fulton officiating. Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting with local arrangements.

Clare Ida Albrecht was born on April 6, 1924 to Theodore and Josephine (Tramp) Albrecht. She was the 7th of 10 children, having 3 brothers and 6 sisters. Before entering the religious life, Clare taught rural schools near Menominee and Beaver Creek, NE.

She entered the Maryknoll Convent in 1949. She taught school in the Bronx, NY and St. Louis, MO for 10 years before being assigned to Japan in 1963. She spent 20 years teaching and doing pastoral work. From Japan, Sister Maria Clare traveled to China to teach English. Three years later she was called back to Japan. In 2000, she joined the retirement community in Monorovia, CA and then to New York. She remained active right up to her final illness and death.

Sister Maria Clare is survived by a brother Floyd (Joyce) of Menominee, NE; two sisters Rita of Wisconsin and Joan (Gerald) Suing of St. Helena, NE as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Vitus and Roman; sisters Val Moen, Marie Bart, Sister Agnes O.S.U., and Sally Sanford.
