John Farrell "Bill" Amos was born on August 7, 1904, in Orla, Missouri, to Abram Hugh and Cora (Lindsay) Amos. He married Gladys Pauline Robinson on June 12, 1938, in Lebanon, Missouri. He worked as a teacher for most of his life, living in Springfield, Aurora, Kansas City, and Independence before retiring and returning to the Lebanon area.

Bill died at his home on March 19, 1993, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of 88, and was buried in Lebanon in Mt. Rose Memorial Park. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Lee, Ralph, and Joseph Amos. He is survived by his wife, his brother Wilbert Amos, sister Lorea Beard, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
