Spent his childhood in Jackson County, Oklahoma. He moved to Chicago in about 1920 and later made his home in the Buffalo, NY area.

Wes was a breeder and trainer of hunting dogs. For 25 years he was a well-known pointer judge. His dogs won trophies all over the US.
