Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. The Rev. Drew Nagle will officiate. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Gloria Dei Presbyterian Church, 4200 12th St., Rock Island.
Jennie Marie Crosby Bleuer was born in Searstown (now part of Rock Island) March 16, 1903, to James and Anna Koester Crosby. She married Harold Lind Bleuer Nov. 20, 1921. He preceded her in death in 1966.
Before she had children, she worked at Parker's Department Store where she was reprimanded by her supervisor for the disgraceful act of having her hair "bobbed." She was a charter member of Gloria Dei United Presbyterian Church, Rock Island, where she sang in the adult choir and directed the children's choir for many years.
An avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan, she would always be "tuned in" to their games during baseball season. She loved to play the piano and sing catchy songs that amused us all. An industrious homemaker, she was praised by family and friends for the many delicious pies and cookies she baked. She also crocheted beautiful items for family and friends. She was known for being sharp at solving crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble well into her 90s and was still able to challenge us all at Yahtzee and euchre after she turned 100.
Survivors (and spouses) are her son, John C. Bleuer (Joy), Milan; daughters, Patricia Carpenter, Moline, Wilma Hallenbeck (Wayne), St. Helena, Calif., Jeanne Bleuer, Chelsea, Mich.; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, James Bleuer and his wife, Patricia; infant son, Harold; son-in-law, Charles Carpenter; grandson, Timothy Nitzel; great-grandson, Stephen Hall; six brothers and three sisters.
