He worked as an executive sales rep for the Farley-Loetscher Company that made "qualitybilt" woodwork and millwork, and where his father George was a department head. For a time, he served on the Sioux Falls City Council. He and Arley enjoyed fishing at their cabin on Lake Poinsett in South Dakota. They also enjoyed family get-togethers at his sister Neva's cabin on Lake Madison.
