He was the son of William Asbury Allen and Lelia Jane Lakey of Farmington, Davie County, and Concord, Cabarrus County, North Carolina. His siblings were Reba G, Viola J, Ethel M, Willie H, Leo G, and Jessie L Allen.

He enlisted in the Army 27 February 1942 at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina.

He fought in Africa, Sicily, and Italy.

He ws killed in France on 25 Aug 1944.

He received the EAMET Medal and the Purple Heart.

His remains were returned, arriving at New York 31 March 1948, on the US Army Transport Ship John L McCarley.
