Mrs. John Reeves Passed Away This Morning At Her
Mrs. Cynthia Reeves, wife of John Reeves, one of the leading citizens of Beaver county, died at the family residence on Patterson Heights at 8 o'clock this morning, after a lingering illness extending over a year. Death was due to general decline, resulting from old age, superinduced by nervous prostration. She was in her eighty-first year, and had been in failing health for the last year. She was considerably improved during the past summer and was able to go out for a drive nearly every day. Last Thursday she suffered a relapse and her condition became serious. Everything possible was done in an effort to save her life, but she continued to sink gradually until death overtook her at the hour stated.
Mrs. Cynthia Reeves was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Murphy and was born on the Miller farm in Chippewa township, December 18th, 1827. Her early life was spent on the farm and she was a lifelong resident of Beaver county.
She was married to John Reeves on March 25th 1847. The ceremony was performed in New Brighton and they resided in that place for over 20 years, moving to Beaver Falls in 1868 where they lived until recently, when they moved to Patterson Heights.
She is survived by four daughters - Mrs. J. F. Merriman of this place, Mrs. J. M. May of Patterson Heights; Mrs. W. J. Asdale of Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Grace Coates of this place; also one son, John T. Reeves, of Patterson Heights.
She was the last of a family of 12 children and was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian church of this place. Funeral services will be conducted from the family residence on Patterson Heights, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The services will be conducted by Dr. J. D. Moorehead and Rev. William Parsons, of the Presbyterian church. Interment will be in the family plot in Grove cemetery.
In the death of Mrs. Reeves, a woman beloved by all who knew her, for her kind and loving Christian character, has passed away. She had always been an active worker in behalf of the church and was instrumental in charitable work of all kinds. She was of a retiring and modest aisposition and many of the kind acts she did for the needy and deserving never came to light. Her large circle of friends sympathize with the aged husband and the family in their hour of bereavement.
