Doctor, writer and professor. Contributioned to medical journals which quickly attracted the general attention of the profession and gained for him an enviable reputation. In 1857, he accepted the Professorship of Obstetrics and Diseases of Women and Children at Rush Medical College, in Chicago, Illinois. In 1859, Byford accepted the same chair at the Chicago Medical College. Rush Medical College braught him back in 1870. He was one of the founders of the Woman's Medical College of Chicago in 1879. Byford was one of the eminent gynecologists of the nineteenth century.

Gravesite Details

A Chicago Public School building was named after him and built in 1892. It lasted over 100 years. William H. Byford School was demolished and the new building was named the Milton Brunson Specialty School. See Find A Grave Memorial# 18579339
