Edward Godwin and his wife, Mary, resided in Fayetteville, North Carolina, but spent a lot of their spare time at a cottage they owned at White Lake in Bladen County, North Carolina. Mary's sister and her husband, Citoria and Asa Bullard, owned the summer house directly next door to the Godwins. Edward died suddenly while resting in a recliner at the cottage. In a note to her brother, Mary wrote that Edward passed very peacefully.
