Andrew Blackwell last funeral rites held in Lumberton
Funeral services for Andrew Jackson Blackwell, Sr., 64, were held at the first Baptist Church in Lumberton Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. He died following a long illness.
Burial was in the Lumberton Cemetery with Rev. W. H. Ross and Rev. Hilton Entrekin officiating. The body remained at Bounds Funeral Home until time for services.
Mr. Blackwell was born in Jasper County but moved to Lumberton with his parents while in his teens. He worked at various trades and at one time owned and operated a shoe repair shop in Poplarville. He worked for the Edward Hines Saw Mill and Press Haynes magnolia Lumberton and Hardware Company.
Mr. Blackwell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lumberton.
Pallbearers included N. H. Norton, Ben Barrett, Al Harrington, John Ryles, Lamar Reynolds, and Lennis E. Ladner. Honor Pallbearers included Monroe Burge, Emmett Byrd, Andy Beall, Jack Kelly, Ellis Walters and Lennis Ladner.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Theola Jones Blackwell; four sons, A. J., Jr., Robert, J. D., and Ed, all of Lumberton; seven daughters, Mrs. Pauline Reed of New Orleans, Mrs. Miriam Broadus of Collins, Mrs. Merle Bass of Ranger, Colo., Mrs. Betty Cannon of Louisville, Ky., and Mrs. JunJe Broadus, Miss Frances Blackwell, and Miss Shirley Blackwell, all of Lumberton; two brothers, Horace of Hattiesburg and Tubb of Clarksdale; four sisters, Mrs. Clemmie Jordan of Hattiesburg; Miss Ruth Blackwell and Mrs. Maggie Forke of Augusta, Ga. and Mrs. Ida Ballinger of converse, Ida.; and 18 grandchildren.
