She was the daughter of Paul Elmer and Isabel Hartson of Portland, Multnomah CO OR. Her brothers were Henry S Hartson and MM3C Kent S Hartson.

She was born in Portland, OR. She graduated from Washington High School in Portland, OR.

She entered AAF training at Avenger Field, Sweetwater, TX on 06 April 1943 and graduated on 11 September 1943.

She was assigned to be an Engineering Test Pilot and an Instrument Instructor.

She was killed while on a test flight in BT-13A #42-88794 Valiant at Perrin Army Air Base, Denison TX, when the aircraft experienced a stall and spin.

She was one of thirty-eight WWII WASPs killed while in the service of their country.
