MRS. RACHEL SIPES

Mrs. Rachel Sipes, widow of Theophilus Sipes, deceased, died, Wednesday noon, May 10, 1933, at her home at Harrisonville, death being due largely to infirmities of old age.

Mrs. Sipes was a daughter of Azariah and Mary Ann Hoy Akers, deceased, and was born near Akersville, this county, September 11, 1847, hence was aged 85 years, 7 months and 29 days.

She was united in marriage to Theophilus Sipes of Sipes Mills and began home-making on a farm in Licking Creek township. No children were born to this union.

Her husband preceded her in death 23 years ago, since then she has resided at Harrisonville. She was a member of the Ebenezer M.E. Church for nearly 60 years.

"Aunt Ray Sipes" as she was familiarly known was a model woman of a fine christian character, a good neighbor, kind to everyone with whom she met, especially to children who loved to visit her and who were made happy by her many acts of kindness to them, she was a great lover of birds and flowers and tamed and fed many birds, her happiest hours were spent working with her flowers and caring for and feeding birds. She enjoyed the confidence and friendship of a large circle of friends and one of her last requests were that her many friends be thanked for their kindness to her during her last years and especially thru her last illness.

Funeral services were held on Friday, May 12th, at 10 o'clock at the Ebenezer M.E. Church, Rev. Gilbert of Needmore officiating. Interment was made in the cemetery near the church, beside that of her husband whose loss she mourned until her death.

She is survived by E. Norman Akers, of Sipes Mill, a nephew; Mrs. J.V. Van Roden of Philadelphia, a niece, and several nieces and nephews in Ohio and Maryland, also some cousins.

Her soul to Him who gave it rose--God lead it to its last repose--its glorious rest.
