Frederick J. Conrad, 69 native of Amsterdam, and for a long time preminent as a building contractor here, died Monday morning at the home of his son, Charles B. in Tucson, Arizona, where he was making a visit. In recent years Mr. Conrad lived in Pontiac, Michigan.
Born in Amsterdam, March 19, 1869, he was active in the building expansion of the west end of the city where he constructed a number of dwellings. He also erected the present Hotel Griffin on West Main Street, it then being known as Hotel Conrad, and Mr. Conrad was the proprietor of this for a time. He married Jane Burns who died in 1921 and thereafter he loacted in Pontiac, Michigan. A man of jovial friendly nature, he had a wide circle of acquaintances here who will regret to learn of his death. Besides the son in Tuscon, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Henry Myere, Washington, D.C.; another son Ward F., Pontiac, Michigan and one brother, J. William Conrad, this city. During his residence here Mr. Conrad was a member of St. Mary's Church. The body will be brought to Amsterdam for the funeral and burial.
