NEWPORT - Lillian Mary Bowlan, 86, of Springfield Road, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at Woodlawn Nursing Home.

She was born Feb. 13, 1917, the daughter of Napoleon and Rose (Johnson) Tremblay, and attended local schools. She worked many years at International Shoe and Sportwelt Shoe companies. She was also employed in the polishing department of Sturm, Ruger, retiring in 1984.

In 1931 she married George F. Drew. Together they raised a daughter, Dorothy Mary Drew. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She was predeceased by her first husband, George Drew, in 1975 after sharing 41 years of marriage together. Her second husband, Stanley Bowlan, predeceased her in 1988. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Dorothy McGray; and her siblings, Eileen Carney, Marion Prescott, Rena Putnam and John Tremblay.

Members of her surviving family include three grandchildren, Karen Tomecek of Texas, Sandra Smith of Newport, and Jodi Tenney of Claremont; six great-grandchildren, Russell and Douglas Young, Nicole and Stephanie Smith and Colten and Danielle Tenney; and two grandnieces.

Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main St., Newport.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 3, at the funeral home with Richard Wallace officiating.

Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.
