James Marvin Lockhart was born September 24, 1883 in Arkansas. He completed McGuffey's Fourth Reader before he had to quit his education to work on the family farm. He grew into a tall, hale man reaching a height over 6 feet with broad shoulders, dark hair, and blue eyes.

Both parents died by the time he was fifteen years old so he and his younger brother moved on together for a while until his brother's marriage, at which time he turned his focus to his career in the lumber industry.

In 1920, he married Tinnie Stevens and soon became a father of four children...three daughters and one son. He continued his career in the lumber industry in several locations, including Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana.

It was in Louisiana that his battle with cardiopulmonary disease was finally lost on November 22, 1939. He passed away at the age of 57, leaving behind a grief-stricken young wife and four children who deeply mourn his passing. He is interred in the Joneboro Cemetery in a grave near his beloved younger brother who preceded him in death.

Note: His birth date is in question as it is listed anywhere from 1878 (on a census record) to 1885 (on his marriage record). I have listed it on his memorial as it is listed on his gravestone, even though that date would make him two years younger than his "younger" brother.
