Vernon Atwood Cobb, 90, of Richmond, KY, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2009 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Mr. Cobb was born on August 20, 1918 in Jessamine County and was the son of Ernest and Dora Perkins Cobb, both of whom preceded him in death. He was employed at the University of Kentucky and retired in 1982. He enjoyed "fixing" lawn mowers and gardening. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cobb was preceded in death by: 3 brothers, Welch, Ray and Price Cobb; one sister, Evelyn Brumback; and one grandson, Hunter Ryan Whitaker.
Survivors include: His loving wife of 70 years, Stella Griggs Cobb; one son, Douglas A (Deanna)Cobb, of Richmond; 3 daughters, JoAnn (Junior)Whitaker, Betty Wilson and Judy (Nathen)Anderson, all of Richmond;11 grandchildren, Harold Douglas (Susan)Cobb, Scott(Lori) Cobb, Chad (Rachel) Cobb, Hardy (Natalie) Whitaker, Heather (Wayne) Anderkin, Derrick, Jeremy and Jason (Jill) Whitaker, Whitney (Matt)Burns, Keith and Darin Anderson;19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Rice Cobb; 3 sisters, Alene Lowry, Ernestine Stinnett and Helen Caudill. Funeral services for Vernon Cobb will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at the Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. Don McWhorter officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.
