BARBER, SAMUEL V.
Born in Georgia, 1842. Son of Joseph and Arcena Barber of Barber County, Alabama. Enlisted as a Private at Barbour County, Alabama into the "Clayton Guards" which became Company I of the 1st Alabama Infantry (later reorganized into Company F.) Captured April 7, 1862 at Island No. 10. Received at Camp Randall, Madison Wisconsin April 20, 1862. Died there May 20, 1862 and buried there, 982 from his home in Barbour County, AL. Enumerated on the 1860 US Census for Barbour County Alabama as Samuel Barber, age 18, born 1842 in Georgia.
