Lt. Cmdr. William Foster Skyles, Sr., USN (ret.), 77, of Gwynn, died on Monday, Dec. 11, 1967 in a Hampton hospital after a long illness.
Retired from the Navy after 24 years service, he was a member of Gwynn's Island Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pauline R. Skyles of Gwynn; three daughters, Mrs. Frank Hudgins, Jr., of Grimstead, Mrs. Edward O. Langfelder of Richmond and Mrs. Paul Ross, Jr., of Norfolk; two sons, Robert N. Skyles of Fort Worth, Tex., and William F. Skyles, Jr., of Grimstead; two step-sons, Conrad Rowe and Kenneth Rowe, both of Gwynn; a half-brother, James Hawke of Springfield, Ohio; seven grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, conducted by the Rev. W. J. Boyd, retired Methodist minister.
Pallbearers were L. R. Callis, George Daly, Donald Daly, Edgar Powell, Preston Hurst and Eugene Callis.
Burial was in the Gwynn's Island cemetery.
