The Hastings Tribune printed an announcement of the marriage of Alice Dinnell and Merle Simmons on Saturday, September 8, 1934. It appeared under the heading: Dinnel--Simmons
Miss Alice Dinnel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dinnel of Hastings, and Merle E. Simmons, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Simmons, also of this city, were married at 7 o'clock Saturday, September 1, the Rev. Roy E. Barnett, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.
Following the ceremony a wedding dinner was served at the home of the bride's parents, after which Mr. and Mrs. Simmons left the city for a short wedding trip.
They planned to return to Hastings this weekend and will be at home at 2019 West Second Street.

Pallbearers were Craig LeBar, Tim LeBar, Ron Bergman, Ken Dinnell, Ed Consbruck and Ken Hemberger. Burial was in Parkview cemetery.

SIMMONS, Merle E. 0f 139 chestnut Avenue passed away at the Good Samaritan Village, 69 years old, survived by his wife Alice, one daughter Mrs. Leo (Alice) Consbruck of Juniata, one son Charles of Eugene, Oregon, eight grandchildren, one sister and four brothers. Services will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Butler-Volland Chapel. Rev. Chester Carlson will officiate. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Cancer Fund.
