DETECTIVE A. CARL GREENE

KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY AS A HOUSTON POLICE OFFICER
District Attorney Investigator Carl Greene a native of Abbeville, Louisiana was born May 27, 1893 died March 14, 1928. He was shot and killed in the line of duty while working as a Houston Police Officer assigned to the District Attorney's Office.
Surviving are his wife of 7 years Mrs. Pearl Walker Greene; his mother Mrs. R. G. Greene; two sisters, Misses Eugenia and Effie Green; four brothers Robert W., Jules, Richard G. Jr. and Ellis. Another brother, Emery had been killed in an auto accident just several weeks before in Beaumont, Texas.
Services will be under auspices of the Eagles, of which he was a member and Modern Woodmen of the World will participate.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 15, 1928 at the Fogle-West Undertaking Company Chapel.
Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery. Rev. T. J. Windham will officiate.
Active pallbearers are officers who have worked with Green including his partner Claude Beverly, W. W. Way, George Andrew, Percy Heard, E. H. Tally and Jim Daylin. Honorary pallbearers will include city and county peace officers, District Attorney Horace Soule and his entire department, Mayor Oscar Holcombe and all City Officials.
Detective Greene was shot and killed during a raid of an illegal liquor still. Detective Greene's partner was able to return fire, striking the suspect three times.
Detective Greene was survived by his wife, mother, four brothers and two sisters.

Carl lived to be 34 years, 9 months and 18 days old.
