Store Owner at Frierson Dies at 74
Mrs. Rusk Stallcup, owner and operator with her husband of the Frierson Co. Store at Frierson, died Sunday in the P&S Hospital following a brief illness. She was 74. Mrs. Stallcup was featured on the cover The Times' Sunday Magazine July 31 and in a nostalgic article about general stores. She and her husband have been operating the Frierson Co. Store since 1911.
A native of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Stallcup was a resident of Frierson and a life member of the Women of the Church of the First Presbyterian Church. She and her husband would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary in December.
Survivors include her husband, Mr. Rusk Stallcup of Frierson; two daughters, Mrs. Lucien J. Walker of Frierson and Mrs. A.T. Culbertson of Rome, NY; two sisters, Mrs. Ella DeMattie of Pensacola, Fla., and Mrs. Nellie McCoy of Taylor; two brothers, E.E. Cheeseman of Pensacola, Fla., and Jack Cheeseman of Whistler, Ala.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday inthe First Presbyterian Church Chapel. Dr. J. Frank Alexander, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Norvill Jones, pastor of the Frierson Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Frierson. Pallbearers will be Bliss Stallcup Jr., Henry H. McCoy, W.R. McCoy, Richard W. McCoy, Asa W. Knighton, Emmett E. Wood, Tommy L. Warner and William G. Still, nephews of Mrs. Stallcup. Funeral arrangements are behing handled by Osborn Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Building at the First Presbyterian Church in Mrs. Stallcup's name.
