George William Parker (Bill) Adkisson

George William Parker (Bill) Adkisson, age 86, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2009. He was born January 13, 1923 in Harriman, Tn. The son of Jesse and Annilee Adkisson, he attended Harriman High School. He proudly served in the Army during World War II, stationed in Japan and the Phillipines. He was a life-long member of First Christian Church, having served as a deacon, elder and Sunday school teacher. He owned and operated Adkisson's Flowers for over 40 years. A quiet, hard-working, unassuming man, his greatest joy was his family. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Annilee Adkisson; a grandson, Matthew Rittenhouse; sister, June Adkisson Bilbrey; and infant brother, Thomas Delano Adkisson.

He is survived by:
Wife Dolores Roy (Dee) Adkisson of Harriman, whom he married in Detroit, Michigan December 3, 1949.
Daughters & sons in law Linda (Jesse) Rittenhouse of Harriman
Marta (Beryl) Nichols of Jasper, AL
Marilyn (Bill) Hyden of Sparta
Julie (Anthony) Garland of Friendsville
Son & daughter-in-law Brad (Marsha) Adkisson of Harriman
He was blessed with ten grandchildren: Jenny Beth (Scott) Guinn

The family will receive friends at First Christian Church in Harriman from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday. The funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m., with Ministers Nathan Williams and Joe Widner officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Harriman City Cemetery. Kyker Funeral Home of Harriman handling arrangements.
