Josephine Adams married Joseph J. Hagel in 1872 in Mt. Sterling, Brown Co., Illinois. They had 10 children together with 8 surviving to adulthood.

Josephine and her brothers and sisters all probably considered themselves German. Alsace-Lorraine, France is right on the German border (just west of the Rhine River) and was considered part of the Prussian Empire in the early 1800's. It was ceded back to France after WW I.
