Born 1823 in North Carolina. Enlisted as a Private September 14, 1861 at Montgomery, AL into Captain Henry W Laird's Company (Gulf Rangers) Alabama Volunteers by Major J S Calhoun for 12 months. This Company became Company D of the 4th Confederate Infantry (aka 1st Regiment Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi Infantry.) Appears on a Register of Overton General Hospital, Memphis, TN dated December 31, 1861 without remark. Captured at Island No. 10 on April 8, 1862. Received at Camp Randall, Madison, WI on April 20, 1862 and died there May 23, 1862. Buried at Camp Randall, Madison, WI - 981 miles from his home in Coffee County, AL. Claim filed by his widow, Dorcas Peacock dated November 17, 1862. No record of payment of claim. Enumerated on the 1860 US Census for Coffee County, AL as Benajah Peacock, age 37, born 1823 in NC. In the household with wife, Dorcas J Peacock, age 28, born in Alabama and Amanda Peacock, age 9, born in Alabama.
