Captain Dawson died of leukemia Tuesday in Walter Reed hospital, Washington. Since his illness, which began in February, his family had made their home in Aiken, SC. Captain Dawson was last stationed in Florence, Alabama as an advisor to the National Guard.
He was born in Old Hickory, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Dawson. He attended Goodlettsville high school and then moved with his family to Sylacauga, Alabama where he graduated. In 1950, he married the former Phyllis Morton of Des Moines, Iowa.
Captain Dawson was a member of the Goodlettsville Church of Christ. He served overseas in both World War II and the Korean War.
The body will arrive in Nashville at 3:30 pm. today and will be taken to the Cole & Garrett Funeral home in Goodlettsville, remaining there until time for the funeral tomorrow.
Besides his widow and parents, Captain Dawson is survived by two daughters, Kathy Ann and Sandra and two sons, Charles L. Jr. and Bobby; two sisters, Mrs. H.H. Lovelady and Mrs. David Hayford and a brother, William D. Dawson.
