John E. Gilson, son of John and Jane Gilson, was born March 2, 1872, on the family homestead a few miles southeast of Knoxville, and died at Pontiac, MI, Sept 15, 1944, at the age of 72 years, 6 months, 15 days.
He was married to Anna Grace Dickerson in 1896, who preceded him in death in 1935. To this union was born one daughter Maud Gilson of Detroit, MI and one son, Robert D., who was killed in service overseas in May 1942.
He is also survived by one grandson, Robert T. Reece, and three sisters, Mrs. Martha Ross, Berkley, CA, Mrs. Sue Cox, Knoxville; Mrs. Delia Shultes, Greeley, CO.
One sister, Alice Cox, and one brother, Cyrus M. Gilson, preceded him in death.
Early in life he united with the Knoxville Baptist church and remained a faithful member until the church disbanded.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 2:00 pm, at Bybee-Davis Funeral Home by Rev. M.M. Pigg. Interment at Graceland.
