Russell Bowden, 44, of McAlester, OK, died in an auto accident Saturday morning on the Indian Nation Turnpike, south of Henryetta, OK. Russell was the son of Richard and Ruth Ann (White) Bowden. He grew up in Hartshorne and graduated from Hartshorne High School in 1985. He then attended the University of Oklahoma for several years where he played in the "Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band". He lived in Shawnee for several years where he worked as an EMT before returning to Hartshorne. He worked in construction and worked for a home heath care company before taking a job at Spirit 15 years ago where he was a senior detail fabricator and mechanic. He was of the Baptist faith, having grown up in the Haileyville Baptist Church. He enjoyed animals and was a volunteer at the Pittsburg Animal Shelter. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors include his parents, Richard and Ruth Ann Bowden, of Hartshorne; one daughter, Jessie Dawn Bowden Boller, of Dallas; two grandsons, Colby and Kaden; one brother and sister-in-law, Tad and Karen Bowden, of McAlester. Also, two cousins and a friend known as "brothers from another mother," Phil White, Jeff Smallwood and Kevin Fitzgerald; aunts and uncles, Pat and John Smallwood, of Haileyville, Mike and Dean White, of Newnan, Ga., Denny "Nub" White, of Claremore, Virginia Lee "Chick" White, of Tulsa; a niece and two nephews, Kayla Bowden and Brad Bowden, Randy Bowden and his wife, Jutanna. And, other cousins, Mechelle White, Micki and Keith Tucker, DeDe and Gerald Wilson, Pam Mandrell, Susan and Frank Critz, Scott and Katie White, Steve and Paula White, Lee Ann and Don McGill, Denise and Ed Holloman, Kathy Reynolds, Donna and Bob Schneiderwend, Mitch Bowden, and other close family members that include John Boyer, Katie White, Justin White, Ashley White, Courtney Tarver and Whitney McGuire. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill and Ruth White, Mitchell John Bowden and Ruth Bowden and J. B. and Lela Paschal; uncles, Bill Tom "Pete" White and Mike Bowden; an aunt, Ann White, and cousins Kevin White and Michael Bowden. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2011, at Life Church in McAlester with the Rev. Kevin Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Hartshorne under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester. Pallbearers include Billy Glenn Cottier, Richard Bowden, Tad Bowden, John Boyer, Phil White, Jeff Smallwood, Billy Ray Ziverk and Ed Alexander. Honorary pallbearers include Colby Bowden, Brad Bowden, Randy Bowden, Mike White, Denny White, Dwayne Mathews, Frank Critz, Eric Nelson, Ed Whitworth, and his co-workers at Spirit.
