Ernest J. (Ernie) Porter of Tucson, Arizona, died Sunday, August 29, 2010 in the company of his loving wife, Lucile. Ernie was born January 10, 1920, the son of James and Sarah Jane Porter, in Ecorse, Michigan. Ernie was a veteran of the US Army, having served in WW II. He was an electrical contractor by profession, who owned and operated his own business in Michigan. Ernie moved to Arizona in 1964, where he met Lucile. They were married in 1974, and enjoyed 36 years of happy marriage together. Ernie and Lucile enjoyed traveling, participating in many cruises and elderhostels. Ernie was a devout Christian who served faithfully as an usher for over 25 years at St Paul's United Methodist Church in Tucson. Both he and Lucile were very active in charitable activities, most notably volunteering with the Tucson Food Bank, Tucson Metropolitan Family Ministries and Pima County Counsel on Aging. Ernie was a 60 year member of the Masons, and was also active in the Exchange Club. Ernie is survived by his wife, Lucile; three children, John, Sara and Todd; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and multiple nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church at 8051 East Broadway, Tucson, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Paul's United Methodist Church. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY [preceded in death by first wife Jane Miller Porter in 1992]
