Edward and his three oldest children immigrated to the United States in about 1843. Anne stayed behind with their baby, Maurice, with plans to follow later. Sadly, family history tells that Anne died on the same day that Edward and the children arrived in the United States. The family landed in New Orleans, where Edward's brother, Maurice, was living. Edward and the children then moved north to Dubuque County, Iowa, where his brother, James, was living. Edward's brother John was also with him.
A couple of years later, Edward's sister, Abigail Hickey, brought Edward's son, Maurice, to America when she came with her own son, Maurice Hickey.
On April 27, 1862, Edward married Margaret Murphy in St. Clement's Church in Bankston, Iowa. Although it is unknown exactly when Edward died, it was some time in the years between 1880 and 1885. He is listed as married in the 1880 census, but by 1885, Margaret is widowed.
