Died -- At his home near Clyde, Kansas, Jan. 16, 1908, Mr. R.D. Woodward, brother of M.L. Woodward, and uncle of W.A. and R.D. Woodward of this place. The deceased was a member of the Fourteenth Iowa Infantry in the Civil war, was wounded in the battles of Shiloh and Fort Donaldson. The funeral services were held Jan. 18 under the direction of the Clyde Post.

Resin Darby Woodward
was born near Mansfield, Richland county, O., Sept. 23, 1833, died near Clyde, Kan., Jan. 16, 1908, age 74 years, 3 months and 20 days. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Norris, Jan. 18, at the Christian church, Clyde. Cornforth Post No. 159, G.A.R., of which Mr. Woodward was an honored member, took charge of the services at the grave and paid their last sad tribute to a departed comrade.

On October 19, 1861, Mr. Woodward enlisted in Co. G., 11th Iowa Inf. Volunteers, under Colonel Shaw, in Prentice's division. He was wounded at Fort Henry, also at Fort Donaldson and a third time at Shiloh after which he was discharged on July 8, 1862, on account of disabilities, from further service.

On Oct. 14, 1866, he was married to Emily Haymond at Marietta, Iowa, moving to Franklin county in 1881, and to Cloud county, Kan., in 1883, where he has since lived. Two sons ans two daughters were born to this union, of whom his widow and the following are left to mourn his loss: A.L. Woodward and Mrs. E.E. Payne, Clyde; and Mrs. L.H. Headley, Beatrice, Neb.
Mr. Woodward was of a family of ten children, four of whom survive him, viz: Mrs. Amelia Moore, Montezuma, Iowa; Mortimer L. Woodward, Glasco, Kan.; Mrs. Hannah French, Denver, Colo; Mrs. Ellen French, Colorado Springs, Colo.
