Effie was the daughter of James Ryan Sims and 2. Annie Maria Dierlam and granddaughter of John Manning Sims and Maria Louise Jackson. She married Clay Ezekiel Newman on March 18, 1908 in Mineral, Texas.

Funeral services for Mrs. Effie Roberta Newman, 93, of Victoria, Texas, who died Wednesday in a local hospital following a long illness, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Colonial Funeral Home on Red River.

The Rev. George Schultz will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Newman was born July 16, 1891 at Seadrift, and was the daughter of the late James and Annie Dierlam Sims. A resident of Victoria almost all of her life, she was a member of the Baptist church.

Her husband, Clay Newman, died in June, 1949.

Survivors include five daughters, Alma Parsons and Mary Haynes, both of Victoria; Lydia Smith of Houston, TX; Betty Bowers and Jane Yaws, both of Cuero, TX; six sons, Leo Newman of Victoria, Henry Newman of Flatonia, TX, Roy Newman of Nixon, TX, Arthur Newman of Gonzales, TX, Samuel Newman of Seadrift, TX and Charlie Newman of Cuero; four sisters, five brothers, 42 grandchildren and 86 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mark Newman, John Parsons, Andrew Bowers, Louis Yaws Jr., Gerhard Newman and Donald Newman.
