He attended several country schools in Ringgold County and graduated from Mount Ayr High School with the class of 1946.
In September 1946 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the 101st Cavalry Unit in Japan until February 1948 when he was honorably discharged.
In the fall of 1950 Harold attended the Railroad School in Kansas City, MO to be a Depot Agent. He was hired by the C.B.Q. Railroad (it later became the Burlington Northern). Harold started work in Nebraska in the fall of 1951.
On May 20, 1952 Harold and Virginia Weddle were married in Grant City, MO. To this union 3 children were born; Julia Fern, John Andrew and Terry Lee.
After living in Nebraska for 39 years they moved back to Mount Ayr in 1990.
Survivors are his wife of 56 years, Virginia of Mount Ayr; daughter; 2 sons; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; a brother; sister-in-law; and 2 brothers-in-law; along with nieces nephews and a host of friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents John and Fern; brothers Elmer and Paul (and wife Betty) Scott; and Sisters Elizabeth (and husband Dolf) Newton, Marie Poush, and Carolyn (and husband Charles) Zollman.
