Aschbrenner, Arnold R., 81, retired Lutheran minister, died Monday, June 25, 2001. Memorial service 11 a.m. Thursday, Risen Savior Lutheran Church. Pastor Aschbrenner was born May 10, 1920 in the rural community of Sumner, Iowa, to the late Robert and Louise (Meyer) Aschbrenner. He graduated from Sumner High School in 1939 and Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, Ill., on Jan. 20, 1945. He was ordained and installed on Feb. 8, 1945 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Okmulgee, Okla.

On May 19, 1945, he married Florine Hesse.

Pastor Aschbrenner was baptized in May of 1920, and confirmed March 25, 1934 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Springfountain, Iowa. He gave 56 years of service to Lutheran Churches that include, Trinity Lutheran Church, Okmulgee, Okla. from 1945-46, Trinity Lutheran Church, Bremer, Iowa from 1947-48, Zion Lutheran Church and St. John Lutheran Church, Shellsburg, Iowa and Center Point, Iowa from 1949-57, Grace Lutheran Church, Marquette Heights, Ill. from 1957-61. He served Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia as pastoral advisor in Kansas, Zone Four, for the L.W.M.L., L.L.L. and circuit counselor. He also served as delegate on Communities at the Synodical Conventions from 1961-81, Holy Cross Lutheran Church and Chaplain at the Davenport Lutheran Home, Davenport, Iowa from 1981-1985.

Preceded in death by son, Robert Arnold; three brothers and three sisters.

Survivors: sons, John, Tim both of Wichita; daughters, Sylvia Carson of Wichita, Cynthia Schemm of Edmond, Okla.; brother, Paul of Waterloo, Iowa; sisters, Lenora Rathe, Ruby Huebner both of Readlyn, Iowa; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Memorials established with Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind. and Risen Savior Lutheran Church Parish Nurse Fund. Downing & Lahey Mortuary East.
