Carl Arthur Broom was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, and was affectionately known as "Paw-Paw Carl." He was born on September 27, 1928 in Kirbyville, Texas and he passed away in Texas City, Texas on May 17, 2011. Carl is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Yvonne "Duddy" Broom; his parents, Tom and Avy Broom; brothers, Tom Broom and Roy Broom; and sister, Ruby Broom. He is survived by his loving wife, five sons, two daughters and two step-daughters. He will be greatly missed by his 28 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Carl worked as a pipefitter/operator at ISP in Texas City, Texas for 28 years prior to his retirement. His family and friends delighted in his many jokes and stories, as well as his taste in fashion. For many years he and Corrine enjoyed hosting holiday BBQ's at their home for family, friends and priests from area Catholic churches. He will be remembered throughout the community for his generosity and support of the O'Connell Booster Club and Galveston Little League. Carl was a longtime parishioner of and contributor to St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Galveston, Texas.

Carl's family will receive visitors beginning at 5:00 pm, Thursday, May 19th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A rosary will conclude the evening at 7:00 pm, led by Father John Bok, OFM.

Funeral mass will be 9:30 am, Friday, May 20th, at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father John Bok, OFM, as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
