U.S. Congressman. He graduated from William and Mary College Virginia, in 1804, studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives in 1815. In 1817, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifteenth and Sixteenth Congresses, serving until 1821. After his term, he was again a member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives, (1821-22). In 1823, he was appointed the first United States Minister to the Republic of Colombia, but died suddenly at age 37 while en route to his post, in Turbaco, Colombia. Anderson County, Kentucky, is named in his honor.
