OBITUARY OF STANLEY BOWLAN, 72 Stanley A. Bowlan, 72, Old Springfield Road, Newport, died Nov. 26, 1988 at Newport Hospital. He was born Feb. 17, 1916, in Ashland, the son of Thomas and Iva (Williams) Bowlan and had lived in the Newport area for over 60 years. Mr. Bowlan, raised in Ashland and educated in Plymouth, had been employed by Dorr Woolen Co. for over 38 years. He had previously driven a lumber truck for John Rowe and worked for Bryant Corporation, Springfield, Vt. He was a longtime member of the Claremont Moose Club, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. His first wife, Nora (Dubuque) Bowlan died in 1973. He leaves his wife, Lillian (Tremblay) Bowlan, Newport, a son, Ronald S. Bowlan; a daughter, Norma P. McGray. both of George's Mills; two grandchildren; two brothers, Alex Bowlan, Newport and Robert Bowlan, North Newport; a sister, Pauline Coady, Newport; nieces; nephews and cousins. Funeral services took place Nov. 29 at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, with Rev. James Gray, pastor of the South Congregational Church, Newport, officiating. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Newport. The family has suggested that donations in his memory be made to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, P.O. Box 185, Claremont, 03743.
