Daniel Boone Caudy was the fourth of six children born to Michael Bryte Caudy and Lavina Z Eicher in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. His father died when he was about 7 years of age and his mother then married Charles William Greene. There were three children born of that marriage. The family then moved to Braxton County West Virginia and in 1880 Daniel was assisting at the farm of John and Elizabeth Heater nearby.

Daniel married Ida Gay Barnette on Dec 24 1898 at her parents' home in Camden-on-Gauley, West Virginia. They had three children, Daniel Gilbert, Ida Lucille and Mary Lucinda. They adopted and raised Herbert Felix Barnett, Ida's nephew after the death of his mother.

Daniel worked as a Blacksmith, a machinist, a conductor for the B & O Railroad, a lumber yard foreman and as a foreman at a chemical plant. He was a member of The Masons.
