First Sergeant (Ret.) William Robert Brayman, Sr., 75, of Ellerslie, Ga., died Wednesday, Jan. 5 at the Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services with military honors will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7 in the Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel with the Rev. Tony Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens. Mr. Brayman was born April 26, 1929 in Wyoming, Rhode Island and completed Ranger Training with "B" Ranger Company in 1951. 1SG Brayman's awards include the Good Conduct Medal (5th and 6th Awards), the National Defense Service Medal w/OLC, the Ranger Badge, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Air Medal, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Vietnam Campaign Medal w/device, the Bronze Star Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Staff Service Honor Medal (2nd Class) and two Overseas Service Bars. He was a member of Pinehurst Baptist Church and the Open Bible Class in Columbus. He was a member of the Seniors Bowling League in Columbus and of the Seniors Bowling League in Phenix City. Survivors include his devoted wife of over fifty-six years, Virginia Hartley Brayman, and their four children, William Robert Brayman, Jr., and daughters, Ms. Lori Brayman, Mrs. Thea Brayman (Richard) Williams, and Mrs. Virginia Brayman Baxley; five grandchildren, Ginny (Michael) Daniels, Stacey and Christopher Williams, Robert and Matthew Brayman; three great grandchildren, Morgan, Micah and Marleigh Daniels.
