MRS. METCALF DIES

Mrs. Alice Metcalf, east of Ellery, died early Saturday morning in the Olney sanitarium where she had been a patient for some time. She had been in failing health following a paralytic stroke.

Funeral services were held in Albion on Tuesday afternoon. Burial was in the Little Prairie cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband and three daughters, Carrie, Blanche and Edith.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Earl Ramsey, east of Ellery, a son, Thomas Metcalf, of Albion, and several grandchildren.

ALBION, March 5 - Mrs. Alice Metcalf, 75, well-known resident of the community, and widow of the late Herbert J. Metcalf, died during the early hours of Saturday morning at the Weber hospital in Olney, where she had been a patient the past two weeks. Mrs. Metcalf's last illness extended over a period of six weeks.

Funeral services were conducted from the Ingram Funeral Home at 1:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. Hubert Burris, minister of Little Prairie church of which Mrs. Metcalf was a member, in charge of the service. Interment was in Little Prairie cemetery.

Alice Shepherd was born March 11, 1877, on a farm west of Albion, daughter of Thomas and Jane Mann Shepherd. In early womanhood she was united in marriage to Herbert J. Metcalf, who died January 9, 1935. Also preceding her in death were three daughters, Mrs. Claude Wiseman, Edith and Carrie. Surviving are on e daughter, Mrs. Earl Ramsey, of near Ellery, and a son, Tom Metcalf of Albion. There are five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A grandson, Harold C. Wiseman, who entered the service in January and is stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, came home to attend the funeral service.

Mrs. Metcalf was active in church and club work. She was a devoted member of the Edwards County Home Bureau and the Garden Club.; a lover of flowers and excelled in their culture.
