OLD AND WIDELY KNOWN AND RESPECTED CITIZEN PASSES AWAY-CHARTER MEMBER COUNCIL
Mr. Jesse H. Caffee, an old and widely known and respected citizen of this city, died at an early hour this morning at the home of his son, Mr. J.H.Caffee, Jr., ??21 Thirty-fourth street, after a lingering illness. For six months Mr. Caffee had been confined to his bed, and the end did not come unexpectedly.
Mr. Caffee, who was born in Prince George county in 1845, is survived by a widow and one son, Mr. J.H.Caffee, Jr., two sisters and a brother. He came to this city and engaged in business nearly eighteen years ago, and became a charter member of the city council when Newport News was incorporated. He served in the Confederate army, and until his health failed he was a leading member of Magruder Camp, Confederate veterans. He was a pastmaster Mason and a member of Bremond lodge.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the residence, by Reverend W.Ashbury Christian, assisted by Reverend J.T.Riddick. The body will be interred at Greenlawn cemetery.

Newport News, Va., April 5.- Jesse H. Caffee, 64 years old, died today after a lingering illness. He was a native of Prince George's county, and served in the Confederate Army. A widow and one son survive him.
