Orville was an acclaimed and beloved actor and director in the local Delaware County, Pennsylvania, theater community. Seen many times on the boards at the Players Club of Swarthmore beginning in 1961, his strong and melodic voice enthralled audiences with the songs of characters such as Henry Higgins in "My Fair Lady", Capt. Georg von Trapp in "The Sound of Music" and Emile De Beque in "South Pacific", among others. Serious dramatic roles were also his forte, as witnessed by the leading men he portrayed in "Sleuth", "Slow Dance on the Killing Ground", "The Miser" and "The Dresser", for example. But Orville's passion extended beyond acting into directing. He tackled all types of productions with finesse, charm, leadership and a natural ability to get the best possible performance out of his actors and his staff. Overall, he acted in over 30 productions at the Players Club, and directed at least 16 others. He was loved by one and all.
