Mr. Durden, 96, died Sunday, November 7, 2010 at his residence. He was a resident of Belvedere for the past 64 years and attended Bel-Ridge Baptist Church. He retired from Columbia Nitrogen where he was a plant mail clerk. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and later, in the U.S.Marine Corps Reserve.
Husband of Ina Mae Durden.
He is also survived by two sons, Sammie Berry Durden, Jr. (Kathy), Aiken, SC & James Walter Durden, Belvedere, SC; daughter, Joan Gail Durden Gay (Melvin), Belvedere, SC; four stepdaughters, Sadie Raines, Belvedere, SC, M. Jane Lakeman, North Augusta, SC, Shirley Smith (Larry), Myrtle Beach, SC, & Peggy Story of, North Augusta, SC; 17 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Fannie Griffin Durden.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, November 10, 2010 in the Roowland Funeral Home Chapel, with Revs. Susan Galasso & Earl Welch officiating. Interment followed in Sunset Memory Gardens.
