Amanda was the daughter of George & Emma (Chester) Yapp. Her parents emigrated to the U.S. from England in 1835. Her father George was a carpenter who worked for the early railroad, building railroad cars. In order to stay employed George found it necessary to relocate often, therefore the family lived in various places including New York, Connecticut, Iowa & Illinois. In 1864 Amanda married George Burchill in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1868 they moved to Bloomington, Illinois to be near Amanda's parents.

Amanda died of heart failure after the birth of her second daughter Amanda, who was named for her. Subsequently her husband George arranged for his daughters, Amanda and Amy, to live with his sister Lucentia and Lucentia's husband Louis Dupree. The couple raised the girls as their own. In the 1870's the Dupree's and the girls moved to Greeley, Colorado.

Amy married William Levis in Greeley in 1888. The couple took up farming & had 3 children, Edna, Mabel & George. In 1923, at age 57, Amy died in Greeley. She's buried in Greeley's Linn Grove Cemetery. Many of Amy's descendants continue to live in the Greeley / Northern Colorado area.

Daughter Amanda never married. At age 39 she moved to San Diego, California with her Aunt & Uncle Dupree. She died there in 1918, at age 49, and is buried with the Dupree's in Greenwood Memorial Park, San Diego, CA.
